GMIT SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP 2022

GMIT supports the development of talented athletes and recognises their increasing need to successfully balance both academic and sporting commitments.

GMIT facilitates this vision through the Sports Scholarship Programme.

Sporting scholarships apply to students at all GMIT campuses.

Eligibility

To apply for the GMIT Sports Scholarship programme athletes/applicants must fulfil the eligibility criteria listed below:

  • Students must meet the GMIT admission requirements through the CAO system and must have registered on a programme of academic study at GMIT
  • Compete and perform at International, National, Inter-provincial, Inter-county and/or Senior Club level
  • Commit to an appropriate level of commitment to your club at GMIT and represent the Institute in intervarsity and other competitions and/or training
  • Commit to making a contribution to the administration, coaching, promotion and development of the GMIT club

Please note that meeting all the above criteria does not mean automatic acceptance to the Scholarship Programme.

The eligibility and selection criteria reflect the evolving nature of the Sports Scholarship Programme and GMIT reserves the right to amend the criteria for selection according to the requirements of the scheme.

SPECIAL SPORTS AND CULTURAL ACHIEVEMENT (SSCA) SCHEME

The SSCA Scheme is a special entry scheme (worth up to 50 points) targeted at outstanding sportspersons and those who have made a significant contribution to cultural activities. Ten additional places will be reserved for candidates who are committed to further developing their sporting, cultural and academic careers.

A maximum of two places will be available on any GMIT full-time programme with the exception of the following:

  • GA785 Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Medical Science
  • GA880 Bachelor of Science (Honours) in General Nursing
  • GA882 Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychiatric Nursing
  • GA980 Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Design & Technology Education
  • GA285 Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Art, Design & Graphics

Eligibility

Candidates will be required to fulfil the following criteria:

  • Satisfy the GMIT minimum entry requirements (general entry requirements and specific programme entry requirements) for the programme(s) to which they are applying
  • Demonstrate evidence of sporting or cultural achievements. (Candidates will be assessed on sporting/cultural achievement and academic performance)
