About Handball Club

GAA Handball is a traditional Irish game that has developed an international aspect to the sport. It can be played as singles or doubles. There are three codes to the game, the traditional 60x30 code was once played outdoor in the "ball alleys" dotted throughout the Irish countryside. Now days it's played indoors and the Intervarsities is played in November. The second code is 40x20, this is the most popular code. The Irish Intervarsities is played in November (Doubles) and February (Singles). This code is played in other countries such as the USA, Canada and Mexico. The third code is One Wall. As the name suggests there is only one wall, there are lines on the ground that the ball must bounce within similar to tennis. The Intervarsities One Wall is played in April. Many GMIT members compete in these tournaments each year, there are a number of grades that cater for all abilities and they thoroughly enjoyed by all players.
