"Following the great success of Phase 1 of our virtual fitness classes, “Blast Fitness”, with Mark McGovern we are rolling out phase 2 today. Mark has been hard at work designing this new phase to keep you challenged and motivated and he has upped the tempo with a class every weekday. If you didn’t manage to link in with the first phase, make sure you join in now and if you have been hard at work it will be great to follow on and see how well you are progressing.All the info you need to access the programme is contained in the Mayo Campus Movers section of GMITSULife.ie you will need to join the Mayo Campus Movers club to access all the information and you can do that at https://gmitsulife.ie/club/mayo-campus-movers Zoom Yoga with Katherine Harvey is another online initiative that started last week to great reviews with Yoga HIIT on Monday @ 19.30 and Yoga Flow on Wednesday @ 19.30 you can join these live classes by joining the yoga club https://gmitsulife.ie/club/mayo-yoga where you will be able to access links to the classesThe final part of our virtual package features the online Yoga Classes with Colm Hynes that you can access at your leisure. "Run up to Christmas Challenge with Mayo Sports Partnership The governments “Keep Well” campaign is aimed at showing people of all ages how we can mind our own physical and mental health and wellbeing by adding healthy and helpful habits to our daily and weekly routines. It will provide guidelines, information, and tips on things that will help us keep well through the coming months. To see more about Keep Well / Keep Active Initiatives go to https://www.sportireland.ie/keepwell Now more than ever with working from home and less social interaction we need to motivate ourselves to keep active daily, this is about looking after yourself, it’s as simple as that. One of the “Keep Well” campaign strands is to keep active, even during the winter, is important to help physical and mental health and wellbeing. Mayo Sports Partnership have come up with a challenge to keep you active during the Winter months. Who can take part? Everyone! The challenge is open to anyone who can walk 1k a day! How do you do it? “You have from November 6th to December 25th – 50 days” to walk, Jog or run to reach a milestone and achieve your goal. we have 5 milestones for you to target to make your goals more achievable Milestones; 50k – 1k a day 100k – 2k a day 150k – 3k a day 200k – 4k a day OR 600,000 Steps for the 50 days = 12,000 steps a day = 10k a day! Remember these can be broken up into any distance per day/week for e.g. 20k a week over the 6 weeks = 120km = Milestone 2 100k . Set a goal to be physically active 4/5 days per week. Pick one of our milestones to reach by the end of the 50 days.Register for the challenge on Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/run-upto-christmas-tickets-128242084527 Register with Mayo Sports Partnership on Strava (Not essential). "Hi everyone!Welcome to the ladies GAA Football Team and welcome back to all those who have returned to GMIT this year. Myself, Maeve and Siobhan will be in contact with you all in the next week in regards to getting to know new members and having a chat about how we will stay connected and stay fit ?? Nigel has sent out an email to all students about Virtual Fitness Classes which I have put below for anyone who wants to build up there fitness for when we hopefully get the chance to train as a team. It’s also a great way to stay active in these unfortunate circumstances we are under with level 5 restrictions. Stay safe,Emily McGrory  please see below info on Virtual Fitness Classes , the info will direct you to "Virtual Fitness" which is in the Galway section of gmitsulife.ie but Mayo Campus students are also free to join Our virtual fitness classes are now LIVE!!!! Classes are FREE to all GMIT Students. Simply register on GMITSU Life – www.gmitsulife.ie and join 'Virtual Fitness' under the clubs and fitness section to avail of the classes. You must Pre book all classes 24 hours in advance and then simply click on the link on the time of the class to join. Once you have pre - booked you will be granted access from the lobby. Cameras can be on or off. However, this evenings and tomorrows sessions can be booked 2 hours in advance for this week only. We have Pilates, HITT, Strength & Conditioning and Total Body Workouts on offer at mornings, evenings & lunch times. We are in a challenging time, so now more than ever physical activity is essential for both your mental & physical health. Pre booking into our classes will help keep you in a daily routine.
